Stitching Pink’s Fun Tea Cosy

Keep your tea warm and cozy with this simple and fun-to-make project.  Perfect for gift giving.  Make one for each season. The tea cozy fits a medium tea pot.  Adjust measurements as needed for your own pot.

**All seams are ½” except where stated. A walking foot is helpful.

Materials

• Outside ½ yard

• Lining ½ yard

• Binding ⅛ yard or 1 yard of 2 ½” premade binding.

• Batting 24” x 30” piece

• Ribbon 4” piece

Cutting

• From outside fabric, lining fabric and batting cut (2) 14” x 11” (width x height). 

• *Use included corner template to round upper corners of all pieces. 

• If you are making your own double fold binding, cut a 2.5” x WOF strip from your binding fabric.  Fold strip  in half lengthwise wrong sides together. Open and press the long raw edge to meet the center crease.  Fold again with long raw edges encased. Press. 

Sewing

Fold ribbon piece in half wrong sides together.  Place at top center of one outer cozy piece with raw edges matching.  Baste using ¼” seam. 

To sew the cozy, layer pieces as follows:

Pin and/or wonderclip along sides and top of cozy.

Attach walking foot (optional) and using a ½” seam allowance, sew along sides and top backstitching at beginning and end of seam.  Leave bottom edge open.

Trim curved corners to ¼” seam allowance and then turn cozy right sides out.  Press.  

Open bottom and, using ¼” seam allowance, baste layers together.

Bind lower edge using your prepared binding strip.  Open binding and align long raw edge to the inside of the tea cozy.  Fold short end over ¼”. Stitch binding to inside of tea cozy using a ½” seam allowance.  Overlap at folded edge and trim.  Fold binding to outside of cozy and stitch along top fold of binding.  

Press.  Enjoy a warm, fun, and cozy afternoon tea with friends.
